چکیده
Abstract Key message Mobile laser scanning and geometrical analysis revealed relationships between tree geometry seed dispersal mechanism, latitude of origin, as well growth. The structure dynamics a forest are defined by the architecture growth patterns its individual trees. In turn, result from interplay genetic building plans environmental factors. We set out to investigate whether (1) latitudinal adaptations crown shape occur due characteristic solar elevation angles at species’ (2) architectural differences in trees related strategies, (3) relates performance. used mobile (MLS) scan 473 generated three-dimensional data each tree. Tree complexity was then characterized fractal using box-dimension approach along with topological measure top heaviness species studied originated various ranges, but were grown same settings arboretum. found that originating higher latitudes had significantly less top-heavy geometries than those lower latitudes. Therefore, certain degree, seems be determined their original habitat. also wind-dispersed seeds structural animal-dispersed ( p < 0.001). Furthermore, positively performance conclude use 3D MLS combination analysis, including is promising tool architecture.

Three-Dimensional Morphology Quantification of Biofilm Structures from Confocal Laser Scanning Microscopy Images
Staphylococcus aureus is an opportunistic human pathogen and a causative agent of a wide range of diseases. Its hallmark feature is a capability to form biological structures called biofilms, in which bacteria can embed themselves in a protective matrix. The study of biofilm structures and morphologies is central to understand the biological characteristics of the biofilm including its resistan...
متن کاملAnalysis of Gravel River Beds using Three-Dimensional Laser Scanning
The size and shape of the stones in dry gravel river beds are of interest in geology and river hydraulics. The topography of a bed surface can be measured by three-dimensional laser scanning. A method is described for fitting ellipsoids to the surfaces of individual stones to estimate their size, shape and orientation in the river bed. Different cost functions are evaluated and the methods are ...
متن کاملTwo-dimensional Forest Canopy Architecture from Terrestrial Laser Scanning
Terrestrial laser scanners (TLS) are now capable of collecting 3d data clouds consisting of the x,y,z coordinates of several million laser hits, plus information on return intensity and, in some cases, target colour. TLS collect data at sub-centimetre resolution at a range of zenith view angles. This paper describes the results of a series of experiments in which a TLS was used to measure the t...
متن کاملThree-dimensional forest canopy structure from terrestrial laser scanning
A terrestrial laser scanner was used to measure the three-dimensional structure of forest stands in the Swiss National Park, eastern Switzerland. Spatially coincident hemispherical photographs were taken at each sampling point and the position of each point was determined using differential GPS. A scanner model was derived in order to determine the expected number of laser shots in all directio...
